Stormvloedkering Hollandse IJssel - Algerabrug

Objective: To protect the land areas behind it from flooding. The structure consists of two barriers, and includes the truss/bascule bridge "Algerabrug", and the lock "Algerasluis".
The build of the structure was used to create a fixed passage to replace the ferry. Construction started: January 1954. A year after large parts of the south-western areas of the Netherlands were flooded.

Sluis Engelen (Henriƫttesluis), a canal lock
Objective: raising and lowering boats between the river "Maas" and the short river "Dieze". The structure includes a local traffic bridge. Constructed in 1897.

Grote Sluis Vianen - a canal lock.
Objective: raising and lowering boats between the river "Lek" and the canal "Merwedekanaal". The structure includes two local traffic bridges.
Location: the city of Vianen.
Waterway: the canal "Merwedekanaal" is about 50 meters wide and boats have 6.7 meters clearance at the northern bridge, and 3.6 meters at the southern. More information available in the video.

Eilandbrug - a highway bridge
The structure consists of an asymmetric cable-stayed bridge and a bascule bridge. Construction started: 2000, and is in use since Januari 21, 2003. The waterway the river "IJssel" is 180 meters wide. Boats have 14 meters clearance. More information avalible in the video.

Van Brienenoordbrug - Rotterdam
This 1320 meters bridge with the highway 'A16' on it is one of the biggest bridges in Holland. This bridge only opens for big or special boats. A unique moment because that does happen rarely due to heavy traffic. The bridge is called "Van Brienenoordbrug", named after  the famous Dutch baron and salesman Van Brienenoord. Zeelandbrug - A traffic bridge
Objective: to provide a shorter route between the cities on both sides of the bridge. The structure consists of 54 piers, 48 spans of 95 meters, 2 spans of 72.5 meters and a movable bridge with a width of 40 meters.
Construction started: 1963 and is in use in December 15, 1965, opened by Queen Juliana. More information available in the video.

The Maeslantkering, a storm surge barrier.
Objective: to protect the dense populated areas of the province South-Holland South, and the Rotterdam harbour (Europoort) from flooding.
The construction started: 1991, and is in use since 10 May. 1997.
Around 86,000 ships pass every year.

Erasmusbrug - A local traffic bridge
Objective: to facilitate the traffic flows between the Northern and Southern areas of the city. Structure constists of a cable-stayed bridge and a bascule bridge. Construction started: 1990. In use: September 4, 1996, opened by Queen Beatrix. Its buckled asymmetric steel pylon reaches 139 meters high, of which it earned it's nickname "The Swan". More information available in the video.

Objective: to replace the outdated steel truss bridge "Bommelse Brug". Construction started in September 1992, in use at Januari 18, 1996

Objective: to improvement of the waterway connection between the city of Amsterdam and the river "Lek". The structure consists of two chambers, and a fixed steel beam bridge. Constructed around 1938 and in use at March 23, 1938. Around 50,000  boats pass every year. Boats have a 9.3 meters clearance. More information available in the video.
